R.I.P. Sean Price

I decided to delay my GZA post out of respect for this sudden, unfortunate news of the passing of Sean Price, also known as Ruck, one half of Heltah Skeltah. I logged on to Twitter and this is one of the first things I see (I also saw the Instagram post from his wife, obviously devastated by this). Based on what I'm reading as of this post, Sean passed away in his sleep, however, a forthcoming autopsy will determine the actual cause of death.

I remember first hearing Sean on Smif N Wessun's "Dah Shinin", and of course the first Heltah Skeltah album, "Nocturnal", brings back many memories from 96. In addition to an overall very good discography with Rock (I can only imagine how he's feeling right now), Sean's solo discography was largely very good as well ("Jesus Price Suparstar", "Monkey Barz", "Mic Tyson" and even the "Land Of The Crooks" EP with M-Phazes are all tight albums). I'm also just finding out that his 4th album, "Songs In The Key Of Price" is set for an August 21st release date (it's available for pre-order on iTunes).

Sean Price will certainly be known for his no holds barred, ruff & rugged style on the mic, no question about that, and as far as I'm concerned, this is another unfortunate loss for hip hop. My thoughts and prayers go out to him, his family and friends.

RIP Sean Price
