Just when I think I've seen and heard it all when it comes to stupid comments being made by certain hip hop, uh, artists, that notion is then thrown out the window. Today I read an article where Waka Flocka Flame (I still shake my head completely at that name) said and I quote, "he's not a fan of hip hop and he doesn't know where it started". (Facepalm) Ok, let's back up one minute here. Isn't this the same clown that said "being lyrical doesn't matter"? (And he is a clown, and there's one too many of them in hip hop right now) Let's disregard this as the guy saying this to get attention, I refuse to believe that. How can he possibly be in a CULTURE like hip hop if he's not a fan and doesn't have a sense of history?? Am I the only person who finds something completely wrong with this??? In my view, it's stupid and ignorant as hell.
Another point I want to make is that when guys like him make comments like this, nothing happens unfortunately. Fans such as myself will make posts like this and feel outraged (slightly), while today's generation will just shrug it off as "hating", and Waka will continue as if this never happened. Again I must ask, can you IMAGINE if someone made a comment like this in the 80s and 90s?? It wouldn't have been tolerated, plain and simple. Rant over.
