On This Day in Hip Hop History..... (updated)

The Roots released their fourth album 14 years ago, "Things Fall Apart".

Not only was this an excellent album, possibly #2 or #3 after "Illadelph Halflife" (which I feel is their best album), this was their most successful, reaching certified Gold status (their first album to do so) and winning a Grammy award for Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group for "You Got Me", in addition to being nominated for Best Rap Album (losing to Eminem's Slim Shady LP). There's absolutely no filler whatsoever on this album, everything clicks regarding the lyrics and production, and it still holds up today, 5 stars.

Naughty By Nature released their sophomore album, "19 Naughty III", 20 years ago on this day.

Although this album is not on the level of their 1991 debut, it essentially picks up where that album left off, featuring the CLASSIC "Hip Hop Hooray" (one of my favorite songs from them), "It's On", "Written On Ya Kitten", "Take It To Ya Face", and "The Hood Comes First".  Very good album.
