Ready for a rant, lol???
Today my lady and I were doing a little bit of riding and we were listening to the radio, however, before I go into that a little further (along with the purpose of this topic), I want to say a little something. Normally when I'm riding in my own vehicle, I almost NEVER listen to the radio and the only time I do is in the mornings (the Steve Harvey Morning Show, Russ Parr, just to name a few). Other than that, there's ALWAYS a CD in the deck. One of the main reasons I don't listen to the radio is due to the COMPLETE lack of variety on the two major stations in my immediate area (Power 9.21 & 106.5 The Beat) and this was definitely made clear (again) today.
As I was starting to mention at the beginning of this, my lady and I were listening to the radio as we were riding today, I was switching between the two aforementioned stations, and it was downright frustrating going from both stations. Why? Well, when it comes to hip hop, which I'm VERY selective of, most of the "top" songs of today sound very much alike and that's not a good thing if you ask me. You can't differentiate between either of them and if you switched beats and, uh, lyrics, you would receive the same result, and 85% I don't like to be honest. And PLEASE don't get me started on R&B. Smh, Lord Jesus Christ, what has R&B come to? I don't think I've ever heard so much lack of variety in that genre like I do nowadays (with hip hop, it's been like that for the last 5 years or so). It's like almost every single song is about sex. Don't get me wrong, a song here and there about sex or whatever you want to call it is ok, but man, that was present on nearly every song I heard today, and all I could do was shake my head. One song even begun with a line that said "let me taste your skin". What in the world? And some of these songs, a decade ago, would've been deemed not fit for radio, but I guess times have indeed changed. I can only imagine what the videos are like, because I guarantee you they're probably playing the SAME videos each and every day. What happened to variety in our music?????
You know, sometimes I wish I had my own radio station, because not only would I have to have creative control (and not in a bad way), but I would offer variety that you're not getting on the major stations, and it doesn't seem like it's getting any better. Something needs to change.
